Chapter 12 : Motivation in learning and teaching
This is an interesting chapter because its all about motivation. Motivation is an internal state that arouses , directs, and maintains behavior. The focus on motivation focuses and how and why initiate actions directed towards specific goals (p.430). I believe that motivation is one of the keys that makes the life of a human bean work and it allows them to thrive and want to push them self to become better as students and humans . When I was reading this chapter I thought, how important is motivation to an educator ? I believe that motivation is essential to educators because we need to teach our future students that sometimes there are ups and downs in life . Ones we hit those downs we should not get discourage and try as many times as necessary to accomplish that difficult task . One of the most important aspects of motivation is not giving up !
In this chapter I also learn about goal orientation . They basically explain that motivation and goals are very important . The most important aspects of motivation is having specific goals. This is important because when we set our mind to specific goals it allows us to keep in track and reach our goals . One thing is for sure that the goals need to be realistic and we need to have an understanding that we cant just set goals and expect them to magically turn up we have to work hard to reach them .
One think that I personally though it was very interesting in the reading is anxiety and how interferes with learning . I can personally identify with this one . According to the reading can be the cause of poor performance ; it can interfere with attention to, and retrieval of information (p.451). Ever since I could remember when ever I have to take a test I get really nervous and then it changes into anxiety. I dont think that I am in these boat alone . I think that there are many people out there that can identify them self with what I experience .
One of the coolest things that I learn in this chapter was Blooms Taxonomy . This is one of the most important theory for educators that we could learn and need and must know. Blooms taxonomy is broken down as knowledge, comprehension , application, analysis ,synthesis , and evaluation . All this words combine can create a powerful and helpful for education . The are all important because their ultimate goal is to help a student to understand and apply their knowledge . Crete was apply in 2001 but I want to know why you think create was added and its so important in Blooms taxonomy ?
I agree, there has been several times in my life even now that anxiety and stress interfers with my life, more than I would like it too. It has been said that stress and anxiety are indicative of poor judgement and decision making capabilities. Several years ago I promised myself that I would not make major decisions in time of stress, however, when your at your highest level of stress you feel like you have no choice but to make a decision so that finally you can be out of "limbo" for lack of a better word. Also, it has been said that an individuals personality and termpermant are best exhibited at times of stress, not times of calmness. It is good to learn appropriate and positive coping skills during these times. I should take my own advice, because I know as many others have experienced coping skills are only needed in situations that require them. So, obviously as a teacher it is good to spot anxiety and stress in our students and aid in implementing and aiding positive coping skills that will allow them to focus on their school work, as well as, connect these students to appropriate channels to further their maintenance for future issues.

ReplyDeleteYou are right ,
ReplyDeleteO believe that stress and anxiety can bring a lot of stress into our lives and it stops us from thinking straight . I think that you can really see and tell how a person is according to the level of stress in witch they are . I also think that If people just stop and breath that would also allow them to calm down and think things at a real clear perceptive .
