The resources of this week were very interesting and to be honest they open my eyes to the reality sad that this nation is facing . On one of the videos we see president Barack Obama speaking on education . He said ," Although we have made significant progress this nation is still falling behind ." I wounder why? Could it be because he have place all of our energy and teaching time on test ? Every day it just seems that we hear about a new test doesn't it ? When we are preparing our students for that new test other nation are introducing them to art, mathematics, science and other academic subjects which are helping them succeeded in the future. President Obama has great ideas when it comes to the reform of education however I can understand why must everything fall on the teacher's shoulders ? When he said that good teacher would be rewarded well I want to know what are the qualifications of a good teacher? I believe that every teacher is a good teacher because they decided that they were going to go into this field . I just think that teachers right know are a stress because its all about having their students to perform at their best . Some of them are so nervous because if they don't show the growth of their students they know that one day that little piece of information would come on hunt them for the rest of their life.
Also . on this week we read very interesting chapters about psychology of education . I learn that education psychology is define as the discipline concern with the teaching and learning process; which is applies the methods and theories of psychology and has it own as well.(p.12) What this classically means is that when a teacher/parent teaches someone else in some setting . Education psychology is very useful because because it teaches us how people learn differently a particular subject but it also teaches us how their cultural influence affects their learning . We also learn that their are several ways that we as a society can understand and improve learning . Some of the ones that stoop up for me were descriptive studies, ethnography and positive correlation . Descriptive studies collects specific situations , often using observation ,surveys ,recordings and combination of this methods . (p.14) I think that this is important because by collecting data we will be able to figure out were the root of the problem is for a particular student. That way it would be much easier to figure out a program that would help him/her succeed. Ethnography, describes approaches to research that focuses on life within a group and tries to understand the meaning of events to the people involve. I believe that by understand a group of student and their needs we are going to be able to know why some subjects come more easily to them then others .Lastly , positive correlations is a relationship between two variables in which the two increase or decrease together .(p.14) What I think this basically means is that sometimes we see students together all the time and it affects a lot the academic progress and behavior of one of the two . If the influence is good for the student then the reaction would be positive however, if its the other way around the reaction would be completely negative .
I just think that throw out this two chapters and the research combine we have learn not just need tools that would help us feel secure but to also have a better understanding of education . The most important thing would be to find ways to help those struggling students succeed ,
I have to disagree with you that every teacher is a good teacher because they have decided to go into teaching. I have seen lots of bad teachers, and as some of the other students have written about in the discussion, they have had some of these teachers. I think that having the edTPA in place will help ensure that bad teachers don't make it far enough, but even then, I believe some bad ones will get through.
ReplyDeleteYou talk about types of studies, but what has been your experience with these? Have you ever been involved in any of these? What kind of positive correlations have you seen in your own life?
