Module 3

Chapter seven was a very interesting chapter because it was all about the behavior views of learning . Before I go ahead and speak about what I think of the chapter I am going to speak about the most important aspects that picked my interest . What is learning ?  We all know by know that learning takes places when experiences cause a change in a persons knowledge and behavior. It is important to know that  learning is affected and impact by the surroundings of a child . If their surrounding are positive then their work shows it in a positive way . However , if their surroundings are  negative then the student would do almost anything because that is a sigh for help .
Another aspect that I found to be very import would be the difference between cue and prompt. Cue provides a stimulus that "sets up" a desired behavior(p.255). This is important for teachers to know because by becoming not only familiar with it and knowing how to use it positively them we can use it well as a tool for classroom management . Prompt is a reminder that fallows a cue to make sure the person reacts to the cue . I believe that by being able to use the words written about a teacher can develop a good relationship with their students and the results would not only be positive but they are also going to be noticeable. Another thing that I found very fascinating is to learn to distinguish the difference between learning and performance.Simple put it we all know more then we show. This is very important not only for children but for adults as well . Have you even hear a question on TV or on the radio and know the answered but are two  afraid to say that you know the answered. Then, when you hear the response was the one that you were thinking you feel kind of silly ? Well this goes perfect with knowing more then we think we know .
Now , in the classical conditioning video I learn that some people could be very easily manipulated . Every time that the ball rang people feel the need to eat . Now, do I agree with this experiments ? No , because I do not think they are fair and  to be honest they were a little disgraceful. Why would anyone participate in this ? I know that is an experiment but I just dont think that this is the correct one to prove a point .
Lastly , I read and took the Positive Reinforcement Exercise and let me tell you after taking it I felt very out of place . I thought it was hard, tricky and way to wordy witch in my opinion is a lethal combination. Then, I thought that this was an activity that I enjoy doing and would do more of it only is they change the wording of the questions being asked.

  1. I agree with you about the classical conditioning video. I did not have the greatest feeling watching it. Plus the fact they used a dog instead of a person. I often watch Family Feud because i always feel like i know the answers and when people get then wrong I just think to myself that i could have won that money.

  2. I like how you mentioned how a child's environment affects how they learn. I agree with you. If the child has a bad home environment they may not be getting the help or motivation at home that they need to learn. Depending on their situation, they may need to mature faster in order to survive, which puts extra pressure on the student so they may be distracted. The problems then carry over to school, where they may be tired or stressed and unable to concentrate and complete assignments. However, if the child's home life is filled with motivation and encouragement, they will most likely be able to learn and complete assignments. I think that this is one of the main reasons that teachers need to really know their students. If they see a student struggling, they need to talk to them and try to figure out if there is a problem going on at home that is effecting them in the classroom.

  3. Iza ,
Me too ! I also enjoy watching Family Feud because I like when I know the answered to the question it just makes me feel good. However, if theirs someone around me I just keep the response to myself because am afraid to be wrong . Then , when they say it and it was what I was thinking am like I should have said it . I guess am glad that am not the only one .

  4. Elizabeth ,
How many time we have hear or even seen a child struggling with their academic or just with their personal problems . It seems like everyone has an idea but no one seems to take the initiative to help quickly . I just think that we need to act quickly while we have the room to make the problem better one step at a time .

    1. I agree with you. If we try to figure out why the student is struggling early on, we can help with whatever is going on with the student. If we don't help them when we see they are struggling, they will only continue to struggle and their situation will get worse.

  5. You talked about a child's surroundings having an effect on their behavior, and most likely also their learning. How have you actually seen this play out? You also talked about the differences between cueing and prompting. Again, have you seen teachers use these? What is your own experience with these strategies?

  6. Yes , I have seen this happen when the behavior affects their learning and the learning of their peers . This is because their constantly being call out , send outside the classroom or even to the office . I would think that aspects like this would affect their education some how. When it comes to cueing I have also seen it happen . Sometimes substitutes trigger this when they ask question to the misbehaving student that would trigger lead to irritation . I believe that you have seen it too right ?
